The Municipal Council of Zalakaros, by its Resolution No. 145/2013 (27 June), decided to make use of the option to establish a local heritage register, in accordance with Section 2(1) of Government Decree No. 114/2013, (16 April 2013) on the preservation of Hungarian national values and Hungarikums, to make use of the opportunity to establish a local heritage register.

By its resolution dated 21 November 2013, the representative body, acting in accordance with the Act and the Government Decree on Hungarian national values and ‘Hungarikums’, designated the Zalakaros Nursery School, Nursery, Community Centre and Library as the operator of the Zalakaros Repository of Values.

The Zalakaros Nursery, Crèche, Community Centre and Library – a multi-purpose institution – had been entrusted with the operation of the Repository, the performance of its administrative tasks, and the processing and recording of the items; however, it ceased to exist on 14 August 2015, and its previous duties and records were taken over by the Zalakaros Community Centre and Library, a newly established institution as of 15 August 2015.

It is important to the committee that a detailed catalogue be compiled of the city’s cultural assets, which can be continuously expanded and enriched.

This exploratory project aims primarily to draw the attention of Zalakaros residents to the treasures we see right before our eyes every day, whilst also highlighting those treasures that have been forgotten or are fading from public consciousness.
